The Ministry of External Affairs said that till date, 126 cases have been reported (of Indian citizens serving in the Russian army). Of these 126 cases, 96 have returned to India and have been discharged from the Russian armed forces. There are 18 Indian citizens left in the Russian Army and the whereabouts of 16 of them are unknown. The Russian side has classified them as missing… We are demanding the early release and repatriation of the survivors… 12 Indian citizens who were serving in the Russian army have died.

Addressing the weekly media press, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday said that out of a total of 126 Indians fighting for Russia in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, 12 have been killed while 16 Indians are missing. He also said that 96 have returned and 18 are still to return to India. Randhir Jaiswal said that Binil Babu’s death is very unfortunate. We have expressed our condolences to the family. Our embassy is in touch with the Russian authorities so that his mortal remains can come to India as soon as possible. Another person who was injured is undergoing treatment in Moscow…hopefully, he will also return to India soon after completing his treatment.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its demand for early discharge of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army, saying, “We have learned about the unfortunate death of an Indian national from Kerala, who was apparently due to serve in the Russian Army. Another Indian citizen was admitted and is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Moscow. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Said in the statement that our embassy in Moscow is in touch with the families. And all possible assistance is being provided to us to bring the mortal remains to India soon.
