Former Maharashtra minister Aditya Thackeray was elected leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) legislature party at the party MLAs’ meeting in Mumbai on Monday. Party president Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya defeated Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena’s Milind Deora by 8,801 votes from Worli constituency in the recent assembly elections. His victory margin decreased compared to the previous elections in 2019, where it was 67,427 votes.

Aditya Thackeray has been elected leader of the legislative party in both the houses.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections witnessed a tough contest between the six major parties involved in two alliances, in which 58 candidates lost despite securing more than one lakh votes. NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) appeared to be most affected by this. Election Commission data shows that such prominent leaders include former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and senior Congress leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Dheeraj Deshmukh. Sunil Tingre (NCP), Sangram Thopte and Dheeraj Deshmukh (both from Congress) and Ram Shinde (BJP) also missed out on victory despite getting huge support. There are approximately 2.80 lakh or more voters in each assembly constituency.
