In view of the full suspension of commercial flights, Indian missions in Israel and Jordan have successfully evacuated the first batch under Operation Sindhu due to the increasing conflict between Iran and Israel and the Israeli airspace being shut down. On Sunday, 160 Indian citizens were taken from Israel to Jordan with the joint efforts of embassies. A group of evacuated people entered Jordan through Sheikh Hussain Bridge, which is about 120 km from Tel Aviv. After immigration and border formalities, the group was taken to Amman Airport, 120 km from the border, where arrangements were made to return to India through special withdrawal aircraft leaving on Monday morning.

In Tel Aviv, the Indian Embassy had already established a control room working round the clock and directed Indian citizens to register through the online portal. The preferences of withdrawal were determined on the basis of criteria such as medical emergency, appearance of young children, women and students. Embassy officials contacted registered persons through phones and emails to finalize travel arrangements. The Indian Embassy in Amman took over the residence and transport of those who were evacuated. Both Israel and Jordan governments provided significant assistance to ensure smooth and safe transit of Indian citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) also arranged for special flights from Amman to Delhi, and additional flights are being planned from Egypt to accommodate Indians living in Southern Israel.

Mission emphasized that Operation Sindhu reflects India’s unwavering commitment to the safety and good of its migrant community. More than 40,000 Indians live in Israel, so the government is closely monitoring the situation. This withdrawal is reminiscent of India’s previous successful campaigns such as Operation Ganga, Devi Shakti, Kaveri and Ajay.
