Air India on Tuesday canceled the San Francisco-Mumbai flight at its scheduled stop in Kolkata, as it had a technical fault in one engine. Officials gave this information to the news agency PTI. The closure of the airline created an atmosphere of chaos at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, as 211 passengers aboard the Boeing 777-200 LR tried to convince the officials to allow them to reach their destination as soon as possible. The aircraft had 228 people, including the pilot and the crew. The flight was originally scheduled to leave for Mumbai from Kolkata at 2 am on Tuesday.

Air India is making a “special arrangement” to take stranded passengers to Mumbai. No further information is available. An Air India official said that all passengers were given breakfast and many passengers were transferred to hotels as per their choice, while efforts are on to make other passengers in alternative flights to Mumbai.
Later, an official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Kolkata said that most of the passengers have been sent to a hotel near the airport, while some have been accommodated in another hotel. Typically, the airline fly directly from San Francisco to Mumbai, but AI had to change its route and take “technical stagnation” in Kolkata due to the ongoing geopolitical incidents including Pakistani airspace closure. Flight AI 180 set up in Kolkata at 12.45 am, even though it flew an hour late from San Francisco.
