Maharashtra unit president of Nationalist Congress Party NCP (Sharad Pawar) Jayant Patil said that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has probably taken over the post of minister in-charge of Beed district in view of the situation arising after the murder of the sarpanch. In Maharashtra, ministers are given the responsibility of one or more districts. According to the list released by the state government, apart from his home district Pune, Pawar has also been assigned Beed district.
Speaking to reporters here, Patil said there was no point in criticizing the appointment of ministers in charge and people would now have to see how they perform. He said that the situation in Beed is complex, that is why perhaps Ajit Pawar gave him preference. Dhananjay Munde, MLA from Parli in Beed, was the guardian minister of Beed in the previous government. But he is in controversy regarding the brutal murder of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in the district. Munde’s associate Valmik Karad has been arrested in this case.
