The Union Ministry of Defense issued guidelines under the Inter-Service Organization (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023, which will enable more jointness and command efficiency in the armed forces. These rules prepared under the Inter-Service Organization (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023 have been notified through Gazette notification and will be applicable from May 27. This significant step will promote effective command, control and efficient functioning of inter-service organizations (ISO), which will strengthen solidarity between the armed forces.
The bill was passed by both houses of Parliament during the 2023 monsoon session and received the President’s approval on August 15, 2023 and according to the Gazette notification of May 08, 2024, the Act came into effect from May 10, 2024. The Act gives the ISO Commander-in-Chief and Officer-in-Command the right to command and control service personnel under them, which ensures effective maintenance of discipline and administration within organizations. It is achieved without changing the unique service conditions applied to each branch of the armed forces.
