He could not marry his college friend Rajkumari Kaul, but even after Rajkumari’s marriage, both of them remained together. Neither of them gave any name to this relationship. Atal ji’s stature in politics was so big that opposition parties and media could never peek into his life.

This has been considered as an undeclared agreement between the media and Vajpayee ji, on which neither the media ever showed interest nor Atal ji felt the need to clarify on it. Mrs. Kaul once said in an interview to a magazine, there is no need to explain to anyone about her friendship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Mrs. Kaul said, her relationship with her husband is also very strong.

In the 40s, Atal ji and Rajkumari Haksar were studying in Victoria College, Gwalior. This is a different matter, now it is called Lakshmibai College. Both of them understood each other’s feelings. During that period of partition, friendship between a boy and a girl was not appreciated. Vajpayee and Mrs. Kaul were also going through this situation. However Vajpayee ji expressed his feelings through a letter, which he kept in a book in the library for the princess. Rajkumari also replied in a similar manner, although her reply did not reach Vajpayee ji.
During the partition of India, the princess’s Kashmiri Pandit father Govind Narayan Haksar married her to Kashmiri Pandit Brij Narayan Kaul. Actually, Haksar did not want to marry his daughter to one person i.e. Atal ji. Both Vajpayee ji and Rajkumari Haksar were engrossed in their lives. Later Mrs. Kaul went to Delhi with her husband and Vajpayee reached Lucknow via the political streets of Kanpur. Mrs. Kaul’s husband BN Kaul was a professor of philosophy at Ramjas College. Later he also became warden in Ramjas Hostel. After a few years, unmarried Vajpayee ji became a full-fledged politician. After a long time, Atal ji met Mrs. Kaul in Delhi. Actually Prof. Kaul used to become a hindrance in the plans of the students living in the hostel when they planned to come late to the hostel to drink alcohol. In such a situation, the students made a plan to complain to Mrs. Kaul. When the group of students living in the hostel, Prof. When he reached Kaul’s house to complain, it is said that at that time he encountered Atal ji.
For years, he was among the regular visitors to Atal ji Kaul’s house without any restrictions. Later, Atal ji shifted to Kaul House while till then Professor Kaul was the warden of Ramjas College, but in 1978, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Foreign Minister in the Morarji government, he shifted to the government house with Mrs. Kaul and her daughters. . He adopted Kaul’s daughter Namita and later his sister Niharika. He remained with Atal ji till he became the Prime Minister. Former President Pranab Mukherjee had told in an interview to an English newspaper, ‘We lived in the neighborhood of Vajpayee ji. There was a door attached to the wall of the house, so that people from both the families could easily come and go. Atal ji was fond of fish. Namita used to come to our house often. My wife and Mrs. Kaul had a good bonding. When Namita’s marriage was fixed, my wife had made preparations because the groom was Bengali. Let us tell you that Namita was married to Ranjan Bhattacharya.

It would be fine if they were born out of acceptance and persisted, but many times they also take birth out of rejection. Not only do they take birth but also live with humans. Even after death. This closeness between Atal ji and Rajkumari Kaul grew into a beautiful relationship. Everyone knew that Princess Kaul was dearest to Atal ji.
