Andhra Pradesh will develop port based economy: Chief Minister Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a strategic plan to develop a port -based economy using a one thousand kilometer long coastline of the state, under which port or fishing centers will be set up at an interval of 50 km.

The Chief Minister informed that this scheme will promote economic development in the state, create employment and basic infrastructure will be constructed. In a press release released here on Tuesday, Naidu said, “We have prepared a strategic plan for the development of the port based economy using a one thousand kilometer long coastline of Andhra Pradesh.”

According to the release, a major initiative to set up a ship -making and repair cluster was discussed at Dugrajpatnam in Nellore district. Based on the initial feasibility report, the project is proposed to develop two thousand acres of land through cooperation between the central and state governments.

Out of this two thousand acres, one thousand acres of land will be allotted for main shipbuilding units and one thousand acres will be allocated for supporting industries. The scheme involves setting up a greenfield port, which will be connected to the ship -making and repair center.

The estimated central investment in the project is Rs 3,500 crore, in which the Andhra Pradesh government will contribute land as partners. The Chief Minister said that the special purpose vehicle (SPV) will attract global ship -making companies and an investment of Rs 26,000 crore will come from the project, which will create five thousand direct jobs and 30 thousand indirect jobs.
