Ali Mahmudabad, Associate Professor of a private university in Sonepat, Haryana, has been arrested for his remarks on social media. Police took this action on the complaint of a leader of BJP Yuva Morcha. Further investigation has been started by registering a case against Ali.
What information did the police give
Rai Assistant Police Commissioner Ajit Singh said on the phone, “Ali Khan Mahmudabad has been arrested from Delhi.” He said that he has been arrested in connection with some comments related to Operation Sindoor.
Ashoka University’s statement on Ali Mahmudabad’s arrest
Ashoka University said in a statement, ‘We have received information that Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad has been taken into police custody this morning. We are collecting detailed information about the case. The statement said, “The university will cooperate fully with the police and local authorities in the university investigation.”

Haryana State Women’s Commission sent notice to professor
The Haryana State Women’s Commission had earlier sent a notice to Associate Professor Ali Mahmudabad for the comment made about Operation Sindoor. In the notice issued on May 12, the Commission has automatically taken cognizance of the public statements of Mahmudabad, which is the head of the Department of Political Sciences of Ashoka University, Sonepat.
Commission chairman Renu Bhatia said, ‘We salute the country’s daughters Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. But the kind of words that the professor teaching political science has used for him, I expected that he would at least appear before the Commission today and express regret.

What comments did Ali Mahmudabad make?
Mahmudabad’s comments were attached to the notice of the Commission, one of which said that right -wing people appreciating Colonel Qureshi should demand protection for the victims of the mob killing and demolition of the properties by the mob. The associate professor described the media briefing of Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as ‘showy’. He had said, “But the showyness should be converted into ground reality, otherwise it is just hypocrisy.”
The commission said that initial review of Mahmudabad’s comments has raised concerns about insulting women military officers, including Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh and their role as professional officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
The Indian armed forces had attacked the targets of terrorists in Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir late on May 6 after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. The Associate Professor later said that the commission had incorrectly read his comment. Mahmudabad had said on X, ‘… I wonder that the Women’s Commission went out of its jurisdiction and read my post to such an extent and understood that she changed its meaning.’
