The first session of the newly formed Delhi Assembly started from today and after 27 years BJP MLA sat in the ruling party. The MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party, who ruled Delhi for almost 11 years, sat on the opposition benches. The view of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was completely changed today. Where earlier BJP MLAs used to do uproar and demonstrations, today the opposition Aam Aadmi Party MLAs were seen doing this work. However, the proceedings on the first day focused on administering the oath of membership of the House to the MLAs and completing the formalities like the election of the Speaker. But on the very first day, the kind of attitude that the ruling party and the opposition MLAs showed that the session of the Delhi Assembly will be ruckus. The Delhi Assembly is also a unique assembly in the country in this sense because the leader of the House is also a woman and the Leader of Opposition is also a woman.
As far as the oath of MLAs is concerned, let us tell you that the MLAs took oath in six languages including Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Maithili and Punjabi, which reflects the linguistic diversity of the legislature. Before the commencement of the session, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena administered the oath to BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as ‘Protem Speaker’ (temporary president) of the eighth assembly of Delhi. Subsequently, Lovely administered the oath to all the newly elected MLAs as the most senior MLA. First Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and then six ministers involved in his cabinet were sworn in. After this, PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma and Home Minister Ashish Sood were sworn in. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa was sworn in in Punjabi, while Law and Justice Minister Kapil Mishra took oath in Sanskrit.

Many other MLAs took oath in different languages. Karnail Singh chose Punjabi, while Pradyuman Rajput and Neelam Pahalwan chose Sanskrit. At the same time, Tarwinder Marwah of BJP raised religious slogans after swearing, which the ‘Protem Speaker’ objected and reminded him that it is not a gurudwara. Amanatullah Khan and Chaudhary Zubair took Urdu, Chandan Chaudhary, Maithili, Ajay Dutt and Gajendra Yadav took oath in Sanskrit. During this time, the ‘Protem Speaker’ continued to instruct the members to follow the official format of the oath. Other MLAs who were swearing in Sanskrit include Sanjay Goyal, Jitendra Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar and Karnail Singh. At the same time, Anil Jha took oath in Maithili. Leader of Opposition and MLA from Kalkaji seat, Atishi also took oath. At the same time, due to difficulty in walking, Gopal Rai took oath from his seat with the help of Atishi. Mohan Singh Bisht was the last MLA to take oath.
Subsequently, three -time BJP MLA Vijendra Gupta was elected the new Assembly Speaker in the first session of the eighth Delhi Assembly. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made two proposals for the election of an elected MLA from Rohini seat. One proposal was submitted by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the other by Cabinet Minister Ravinder Indraj. These proposals were supported by Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Pravesh Verma. These proposals were passed by soundly. The election was conducted by Arvinder Singh Lovely. After the election, the Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition took the new assembly Speaker to his seat.
On the other hand, in the Delhi Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs demonstrated outside the office of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Atishi. This protest was demanded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to fulfill the promise of giving Rs 2,500 to the women of Delhi. After meeting Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Atishi said, “We had sought time to meet the Chief Minister two days ago, but we were not given time. So we are outside his office in the assembly premises. We talk to him on Prime Minister Modi’s promise Want to do that after the first cabinet meeting, women will be given Rs 2,500.
