In the 2019 assembly elections, Babanrao Bhikaji Pachpute was successful in winning from Srikonda seat. Pachput has also been elected MLA from this seat in 2004 and 2009 elections. Apart from this, he has been MLA from other seats of the state four times. Babanrao Bhikaji Pachpute is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Pachput has also been elected MLA from this seat in 2004 and 2009 elections. Apart from this, he has also been MLA from other seats of the state four times. Babanrao Bhikaji Pachpute is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was born in a farmer family in Kashti village of Shrigonda, Maharashtra. He is the son of Bhikaji Pachpute and Tulsabai. Since his primary education, he was counted among the most promising students of the class.

Pachpute used to actively participate in extra-curricular activities like speech, debate and sports competitions in school. Many family responsibilities prevented him from pursuing further studies. But he managed to get admission in New Arts College, Ahmednagar. Along with education he started participating in body building championship tournaments and stood first in Ahmednagar district and was awarded the ‘Ahmednagar Shree’ award. Due to his friendly nature he made many friends. While studying law, national emergency was declared in the entire country and he actively participated in the non-cooperation movement and emerged as a prominent figure in Srigonda.

His political debut took place in 1977. In the non-cooperation movement he raised his voice against the government during the emergency. He inaugurated a branch of ‘Janata Party’ in Srigonda. On 9 September 1977, he was elected as a local body member (Panchayat Samiti). In 1979 he founded ‘Shetkari Organization’ and was elected member of the Legislative Assembly in 1980. He fought for the rights of farmers, starting a major movement in 1981. Babanrao Pachpute has filed nomination and been a candidate for Maharashtra Assembly elections nine times, out of which he has won seven times. His followers attribute this success to the various socio-economic and educational welfare schemes implemented in his home area Srigonda. He is recognized as the only candidate who has contested the election on a different election symbol every time. He won the 2019 assembly elections and the lotus bloomed for the first time in Shrigonda constituency.
