The interim government of Bangladesh announced that it has re -implemented the word on the passport of the country, leaving Israel, which has formally banned its citizens’ visit to the Jewish state. Bangladesh’s Home Ministry Deputy Secretary Neelima Afroz told the Government News Agency Bangladesh Dialogue Committee (BSS) that we have issued a letter to the Passport and Immigration Department on 7 April. During the tenure of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government in May 2021, the statement was removed from the official travel documents that this passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel. The government fell after Hasina’s resignation in August last year and after coming to India after the protests lasted for weeks under the leadership of students against her. The acting administration led by Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus took over on August 8, three days after Hasina’s expulsion.

When and why the line was removed except Israel

According to the BSS, at that time the authorities had said that its purpose is to maintain the international standards of the document and said that there would be no change in the decades -old policy of the Dhaka to ban Israeli. However, after this line was removed, Bangladeshi citizens were allowed to travel to Israel from a third country in the event of obtaining visas. There is no diplomatic relations between the two countries. Dhaka supports independent Palestine.

Why was it added again

The line has been added back at a time when there is widespread anger over the Israeli military attack in the Gaza Strip of Palestine in the eastern neighboring country of India.
