BCCI asked many questions to Rohit, Gambhir and Agarkar, brainstormed on 0-3 defeat to New Zealand

BCCI reviews India’s 0-3 defeat against New Zealand. During this, selection of rank turner for Mumbai Test, giving rest to Jasprit Bumrah and coaching style of Gautam Gambhir were also discussed. During this time, along with captain Rohit Sharma, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gambhir, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny were also present.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir attended the online meeting. According to news agency PTI, questions were asked about some decisions taken by the team management during the series. There was also discussion about Gambhir’s coaching style, which is very different from his previous coach Rahul Dravid, and how the team is getting used to it.
It was a 6-hour marathon meeting, which was definitely the rhythm after such a defeat, PTI reported, quoting a source in the Indian board. India are going on a tour of Australia and the BCCI will definitely want to ensure that the team gets back on track. Would like to know what the think tanks are thinking about this.
That being said, BCCI officials were not happy with the fact that fast bowler and team vice-captain Bumrah was rested for the third Test. Why did the team choose a rank turner pitch after losing on a similar pitch in Pune? Bumrah’s absence was discussed, a BCCI source told PTI. However, this was a precautionary step. Selecting rank turners despite India not performing well on these tracks are some of the issues that were discussed.
