Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Wednesday cited widespread controversies over its properties, emphasizing the need to improve the Waqf Board. Khan shared his experiences as former minister in charge of Waqf Board in Uttar Pradesh and said that more than 90 percent of Waqf properties are entangled in legal disputes. He said, “It is rare that Waqf properties are used to run charitable objectives, such as colleges, universities or orphanages. Instead, they serve the interests of a large -scale rich class.”

Arif Mohammad Khan said that when I was a minister in UP, I took over the Waqf Department for some time. I always had to meet people who had cases related to property. Waqf properties are for the welfare of the people. He said that there are many Waqf properties in Patna, but in Patna, tell any hospital or orphanage under Waqf. Only cases are made there. It required a lot of improvement. And this Waqf Amendment Bill is a step in this direction.

The Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 with several important provisions including increasing transparency in the Waqf Board, after a long discussion on Thursday by 128 votes against 95. Regarding this bill, the government claimed that due to this, there will be a lot of help in bringing Sudhahar in the condition of poor and Pasmanda Muslims of the country and women of this community. Along with this, Parliament approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2024. The Lok Sabha passed them at around 2 pm on Wednesday.
