Jeddah. Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori was most excited about the signing of Ishan Kishan on the first day of the big IPL auction but admitted that T Natarajan’s departure to Delhi Capitals was a loss for them. Kishan, who plays for Mumbai Indians, was bought by Sunrisers on Sunday for Rs 11 crore 25 lakh. This year was full of ups and downs for the left-handed batsman. He lost his place in the Indian team as well as the central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for disobeying the board’s order to play domestic cricket. However, he has made a comeback in Ranji Trophy.
Sunrisers bought eight players including fast bowler Mohammed Shami (Rs 10 crore) and Harshal Patel (Rs 8 crore) on the first day of the auction. However, they were not able to buy back T Natarajan and Vettori said that no one can compensate for the loss of the left-arm fast bowler. Before the auction, Sunrisers had retained five players including captain Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy.
Speaking to the media, Vettori said, “Nobody can compensate for the loss of Nattu (Natarajan) (smiling). Every team goes through this, whether you try to find players early and pounce on opportunities or you wait for the last chance. Natarajan was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 10.75 crore. Vettori said, “We decided to take him in our side when we got the opportunity today and Mohammed Shami was one of them and then Harshal Patel, they were two players we didn’t even think would be available at these prices (low).” Will be sold at price).
He said, “And then Ishan Kishan was a big deal for us. We wanted to add him and we thought he would sell for a higher price. Therefore, we are happy to add these three players and the remaining players. Vettori has come to the auction after taking time out from his responsibility of coaching Australia in the ongoing first Test against India. Vettori said that captain Cummins agreed with the selected players. The former New Zealand spinner said, “Yes, yes (suggestions were received from Cummins). The captain was sad tonight (referring to being behind Australia in Perth), it was a tough day for him. I spoke to him today (Sunday) morning and he understood the logic of the players we selected and then he had some ideas to prepare the rest of the team.
