There was speculation for the last few days about captain Rohit Sharma that he would go to Pakistan before the Champions Trophy tournament 2025. Where will participate in the captains’ meeting. Some reports had claimed that Rohit Sharma would visit Pakistan at least once, but now BCCI has broken its silence on this matter.
Meanwhile, the new BCCI Secretary Devjati Saikia spoke openly about Rohit’s participation in the captains’ meeting and claimed that till now he has not received any such proposal from the PCB. Speaking to The Telegraph, Saikia said that there has been no discussion on this with the ICC. This means that the chances of Rohit Sharma going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy are less.
Devjit Saikia further said that many such proposals have not been received and this was not included in our discussions with the ICC. Although Saikia did not confirm Rohit Sharma’s participation in the captains’ meeting, a source close to him described it as a very delicate situation and said that the matter needs to be handled very carefully as Pakistan is the host of this tournament. However, India will play all its matches in UAE and Team India’s first match will be with Bangladesh on 20th February.
According to PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board has already made it clear to the International Cricket Council that the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy 2025 will not be held outside Pakistan. Captains of all countries will participate in this ceremony. An ICC event is being organized in Pakistan after a long gap of 29 years. PCB is planning a grand ceremony for this.
