Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins
50 Test matches were played between India and Australia from 1947 to 1992. In 1996, both the cricket boards, Control for Cricket in India and Cricket Australia, introduced the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to honor the achievements of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Australia’s Allan Border. Let us tell you that Border and Gavaskar were the first cricketers to score 10 thousand runs in Test cricket for their respective teams and this record remained in the name of both of them for a long time.

So far 16 series have been organized under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Of these, it has been organized 9 times in India and 7 times in Australia. India has won 10 series while Australia has managed to win 5 series. 2003–04 was the only drawn series. During that time India had toured Australia.
Of the 57 Tests played since 1996, India has won 24 and Australia has won 21, while 12 matches have also been drawn.
Australia last defeated India in a Test series in 2014. Since then, India has won the next 4 Border-Gavaskar series. In 2017, India defeated Australia 2-1 at home. After this, in 2018-19, the series was captured 2-1 on Australian soil. Later in 2020-21, India again won the series on Australian soil. The last time India won the series 2-1 was in 2023.
