Congress’s love for Muslims is more electoral than reality

The Congress, which was out of power after losing the elections at the Center and most of the states, has decided not to learn lessons from history. This is the reason why Congress’s obsession with minorities has not ended yet. Congress has been seen protecting the minorities even in their illegal activities. Congress is not alone in the Indian alliance, but other political parties have also been in favor of forgiving the crimes of Muslims due to vote bank politics. Of course, even if the crime is related to terrorism. The Congress government of Karnataka has exposed the Congress’s love for minority by withdrawing the case against the accused of Muslim community involved in serious charges like rioting, attacking the police station, arson and vandalism. Despite continuous defeats, Congress sees only the Muslim vote bank as its support for its sinking boat. It is a matter of fact that there are many political parties claiming this vote bank. Because of these actions of Congress, BJP has been successful in polarizing Hindu-Muslim votes in the country.
Karnataka government took the decision to cancel 43 cases after the cabinet meeting. One case in this is related to vandalism in Hubli Police Station. On April 16, 2022, the police arrested a young man who had written a controversial post on social media in Hubli and brought him to the station. After some time, a crowd of Muslim community gathered there and there was an uproar demanding handing over the accused to the crowd, after which violence took place. Had happened. The police station and vehicles were damaged, and nearby shops were vandalized. Four policemen were also injured in this violence. Attempt to murder, rioting and other serious charges were filed against AIMIM leader Arif and 138 others. This is not the first time that Congress has done this for the Muslim vote bank. Whenever there is talk of equal implementation of the country’s Constitution and laws, Congress has always looked at Muslims from a different perspective. Congress strongly opposed the removal of Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite knowing that under the guise of special state and law, terrorists are committing crimes in this Union Territory. To save these pro-Pakistan terrorists, hired stone pelters are working as a security cover. After the removal of this special provision, the incidents of stone pelting stopped. Also, the security forces and police were successful in suppressing the terrorists to a great extent. Despite this issue being related to the unity and integrity of the country, the Congress, which was adamant on removing it, formed an electoral alliance with the National Conference only for the sake of Muslim vote bank.

Similarly, Congress took a sympathetic stance on the issue of Rohingya refugees living illegally. A total of 40 thousand Rohingya refugees are living in India. Most of them do not even have the Refugee Card of the United Nations High Commissioner. In October 2018, the Indian government repatriated seven Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. He was arrested in 2012 under the Foreigners Act for illegally crossing the border into India. Congress never expressed its direct opinion on this issue. Congress neither wants to anger the minorities nor does it want to become a villain in front of the majority society. Therefore, he tried to get rid of the issue by putting the government in the dock. Congress said that how can it be possible that on one hand you send help to Rohingya Muslims on the basis of humanity and on the other hand you call them involved in anti-national activities, the government is not moving forward on any one policy.
It is not that Congress’s love for Muslims for the sake of vote bank is new. It was the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s government which did not make a law on the Shah Bano case despite the Supreme Court’s decision. The present BJP central government made a law on this. Congress’s stance remained the same on the issue of triple talaq. Congress did not make any law on this issue while in power at the Centre. Shah Bano had demanded justice from the court that after triple talaq, it is the responsibility of the divorced woman to take care of her husband. On April 23, 1985, a five-judge Constitution bench, going against the order of the Muslim Personal Law Board, ordered Shah Bano’s husband to pay maintenance to his children. Rajiv Gandhi government had surrendered before the opposition of Muslim fundamentalists. The government had overturned the Supreme Court’s decision. The BJP government at the Center made a new law in the Parliament in the year 2019, banning triple talaq. In this bill, along with giving protection to Muslim women from triple talaq, there is also a provision for punishment in such cases. This law, which is related to the interests of crores of Muslim women of the country, was strongly opposed by the Congress and the constituent parties of the India Alliance. Congress promised to bring back triple talaq in its Lok Sabha election manifesto. Because of this dual policy, BJP has been attacking Congress. Due to Congress’s pro-Muslim policies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Congress of Muslim appeasement. In the election rally of Banswara, Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had quoted a statement of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and said that minority Muslims had the first right on the country’s resources.
The surprising thing is that on one hand, Congress pretends to be well-wisher of Muslims, but in reality, it has worked for the development of Muslims like cumin in the camel’s mouth. Azadi Congress has ruled the country for more than 50 years. During this period, there were Congress governments in most of the states also. Despite this, there was no significant increase in literacy rate, Muslim women empowerment, employment and basic facilities in the country. Congress’s love for Muslims has proved to be more electoral than reality.
