Perth. Australia assistant coach Daniel Vettori will leave his job midway through the opening Test against India here to take part in the big Indian Premier League (IPL) auction later this week. The IPL auction will take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The opening Test match of the five-match Border Gavaskar series will start from November 22 at the Optus ground here. Apart from being the assistant coach of Australia, Vettori is also the head coach of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

An Australian team spokesperson told ‘ESPNcricinfo’, “We support Dan (Vettori)’s role as coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He will make complete preparations for the opening Test match before participating in the IPL auction. He will remain with the team for the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the auction. Cricket Australia (CA) national development coach Lachlan Stevens will replace 45-year-old Vettori during the Perth Test. Apart from Vettori, Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer will also not be able to play the role of commentary for ‘Channel Seven’ due to the IPL auction. Ponting is the head coach of Punjab Kings while Langer is the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants.
