A man accused of raping and killing a minor girl in Kalyan city of Thane district of Maharashtra allegedly committed suicide in Taloja Central Jail in the early hours of Sunday. Police gave this information.
Police said the accused Vishal Gawli (35) was found hanging in the jail toilet at around 3:30 am. An official of the Kharghar police station said that Gawli went to the toilet and he was allegedly used to hang himself using a towel. Later the jail authorities found Gawli’s body.
The local police were immediately informed and the Panchnama was done. The official said that to find out the real cause of death, the body has been sent to the government JJ Hospital in Mumbai for post -mortem.
Gawli was accused of raping and killing a 12 -year -old girl. Officials had earlier reported that the girl had gone missing from Kolsewadi area on 24 December and later her body was found in Bapgaon in Padgha.
Gawli and his wife Sakshi were arrested for ransom, raping, murder, disappearance of evidence and children’s protection from sexual offenses and other crimes under the Poxo Act and sexual offenses after an investigation by Kolsewadi police.
Kalyan police filed a 948 -page charge sheet against the couple in February this year. The police had earlier said in a statement, Vishal Gawli raped and murdered the girl, while Sakshi helped to throw the girl’s body in Bapgaon.
