The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea filed by actor Kasturi Shankar. His plea was submitted in connection with the case registered against him by Madurai Police for making objectionable remarks on the Telugu speaking community living in Tamil Nadu. During the hearing of the case, Justice Anand Venkatesh said that it was inappropriate for Kasturi to make such controversial remarks. Justice Venkatesh also said that Telugu speaking people had been living in Tamil Nadu since the days of Madras Presidency and were part of this land.

Kasturi’s defense counsel said that she had apologized for her comments, given clarification regarding the same and she had not said anything wrong specifically about Telugu speaking women. The verdict will be announced on 14 November. Based on a complaint filed by a Telugu association, the Chennai Police registered a case against the actor under four sections of the Indian Civil Defense Code.
