In 2022, Delhi Police arrested a 35 -year -old travel agent from Punjab for arranging fake British visas for a passenger. An official provided this information on Wednesday.
The official said that the accused has been identified as Amit Bhardwaj alias Gavi, a resident of Kotkapura in Punjab. He said that Bhardwaj had assured the passenger to send the UK via the United Arab Emirates with the help of his colleagues for Rs 12 lakh.
However, the plan failed when Haryana passenger Anil (25) was stopped at Delhi Airport during immigration for Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
On investigating, the visa on Anil’s passport was found to be fake, after which the authorities registered a case on 1 March 2022 under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Passport Act.
A senior police official said that during interrogation, Anil revealed that he had paid Rs 12 lakh to Bhardwaj and his associates for Britain’s visa and job.
According to the police, Bhardwaj and two other agents Karanjit Singh and Gurmeet Singh arranged for fake visas. Karanjit and Gurmeet have already been arrested in this case.
After the arrest of both, Bhardwaj’s name came up as the main middleman. Despite several attempts to arrest, he survived, due to which action was taken against him under non-bailable warrant.
On the basis of secret information, the police raided potential locations and arrested Bhardwaj from Punjab. According to officials, during interrogation, Bhardwaj accepted his involvement in the case.
The accused revealed that he had studied diploma in ‘Multimedia Programming’, but after facing financial problems, he engaged in fake visa work. The police claimed that he admitted to receiving two lakh rupees as a commission.
