External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar called for a multipolar world with a reformed United Nations at its core. Delivering India’s National Statement at the 19th NAM Summit in Uganda’s Kampala yesterday, the Minister stressed economic decentralisation with greater regional production. He pressed for cultural rebalancing where all heritage is mutually respected.

The External Affairs Minister highlighted that India showed during its G20 Presidency that change is possible by spearheading the African Union’s membership. He pointed out that this should inspire reformed multilateralism.

Dr Jaishankar noted that transforming the world order requires practical steps. He said creating regional economic hubs, resilient supply chains, predictable mobility and trusted data flows are essential. He said that addressing food, energy and health security is critical, as is women-led development. He emphasised that connectivity must be prioritised while respecting sovereignty and ensuring viability.

The Minister emphasised that conflict anywhere has consequences everywhere. He said the conflict in Gaza is a humanitarian crisis that requires a sustainable solution that gives immediate relief to those most affected. He said the world must also be clear that terrorism and hostage-taking are unacceptable. He said international humanitarian law must always be respected by all States and conflict must not spread within or beyond the region. He said a two-state solution must be sought where the Palestinian people can live within secure borders.
