election commission took action after complaints sought answers from nadda and kharge

The Election Commission of India on Saturday sent separate letters to BJP President JP Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge asking them to comment on each other’s complaint. The Commission exchanged complaints between both the parties, seeking formal responses from them by 1 pm on Monday afternoon. The ECI reminded party leaders of an earlier advisory dated May 22, 2024, during the Lok Sabha elections, asking them to keep an eye on star campaigners and leaders so that public decorum is not violated and the MCC during the elections. This comes after the BJP and Congress complained to the Election Commission against each other in the ongoing assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Congress has complained to the Election Commission of India about strategic advertisements being placed in Marathi language television serials to promote the Mahayuti campaign. A Marathi television channel has been running advertisements since yesterday in which a hoarding of Shiv Sena’s campaign slogan is shown after a particular scene from the serial. Maharashtra Congress General Secretary Sachin Sawant complained to the State Election Commission regarding the advertisement.

Sawant has approached State Election Commission officials to take action against those involved. According to the Congress leader, the advertisement started airing from yesterday and is running till today and he has received a complaint about similar advertisements being aired on the serials of another Marathi entertainment channel. The BJP alleged that some Muslim organizations were trying to spoil the electoral atmosphere in Maharashtra and Jharkhand by appealing to their community members to vote for the India Bloc on the basis of religion, and sought a probe into the matter from the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said All India Muslim Personal Law Board office-bearer Maulana Sajjad Nomani said the organization had defeated Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on 269 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and It has been decided to support other non-BJP parties on some seats. He said that Nomani has appealed to the Muslims to vote for the MVA, saying that the results of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections will affect not only the future of the state but the future of the entire country. Bhatia claimed that earlier the Lohardaga unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind had appealed to Muslims to vote unitedly for the Congress-JMM-RJD-CPI (ML) Liberation alliance in Jharkhand.
