Shimla . Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said elections should be conducted using ballot papers to remove doubts over the functioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) as the technology can be hacked. “EVM manufacturers have stopped production and if there is any doubt on their functioning then elections should be conducted using ballot papers on the demand of the general public,” Sukhu told reporters here.
The Chief Minister made this comment a few days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Mahayuti alliance won 230 out of 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The opposition Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) won 46 seats in the elections. “Any technology can be hacked and even Elon Musk (owner of social media company ‘X’) has said this,” Sukhu said.
Several leaders of Congress, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharadchandra Pawar alleged irregularities in the functioning of EVMs and claimed that a large number of complaints have been received against the machines. Sukhu, in response to a question asked on the completion of two years of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, said that during this period, by making changes in the functioning of various departments, he has brought the state’s economy back on track and is working for the welfare of the people of the state. Will continue to take bold steps.
