Flights on Srinagar Airport resumed, India-Pakistan stress closed for some time for some time

The operation of commercial flights at Srinagar Airport started again on Tuesday after being postponed for some time due to India-Pakistan tension. Officials said the flight operations started again on Tuesday afternoon at Srinagar International Airport. However, he said that several flights from Kashmir Valley were delayed, while some airlines have announced the cancellation of flights for the first day. In view of the military deadlock between India and Pakistan, 31 airports in the Srinagar Airport as well as the border states were temporarily closed from May 9, after which it was reopened a few days later. The decision to resume flight operations in Srinagar was taken by the Airports Authority of India on Monday after the announcement of resumption of civil flights at these airports.
Officials confirmed that the first flight, Air India (AI 827), landed in Srinagar at around 1 pm after leaving Delhi at 11:47 am. Srinagar airport was reopened, but many flights from Kashmir Valley were delayed, while some airlines have announced to cancel flights for the first day. The airports were temporarily closed from 9 May due to increasing tension between India and Pakistan.
Flight operations and reduction in number of passengers
The data of airport officials shows that there has been a significant decline in both flight operations and passenger traffic from 23 April to 8 May. From 1 April to 22 April, Srinagar Airport handled 1,920 flights and more than 366,000 passengers. However, between 23 April to 8 May, this number has come down to only 1,162 flights and 147,090 passengers – which shows a decrease of 45% in passengers and a fall of 19% in flight operations.

The decision to resume flight operations at Srinagar and other airports came after the announcement made by the Airports Authority of India on Monday regarding the resumption of civil flights at these airports.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) said that the passengers should be kept in mind; Reference notice has been issued to temporarily close 32 airports for civil aircraft operations by 05:29 pm in May 15, 2025. It is reported that these airports are now available for civil aircraft operations with immediate effect.

In a statement posted on X, Air India said, “Flights to Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot have been canceled on Tuesday, 13 May, keeping in view the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind.
