Commonwealth Games gold medalist boxer Manoj Kumar on Thursday announced his retirement and will now start a new innings as a coach. The 39 -year -old boxer, who competed in Light Welterweight (64 kg), won his first gold medal in 2010 Delhi and the only Commonwealth Games gold medal. He is also a two -time bronze medalist at the Asian Championships.

Manoj started his boxing career at the junior level in 1997 and obtained a coaching diploma from the National Sports Institute in Patiala in 2021. His career stopped after the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games due to a dispute with the National Federation on injuries and selection issues and he did not play in any international tournament thereafter. Now he will give coaching at the boxing academy made with his elder brother and coach Rajesh Kumar in Kurukshetra.
