For the permanent membership of India in the United Nations Security Council, not only India but many more countries and partners want to see as permanent members. This is why many countries support it. Permanent members of the United Nations have supported India’s permanent membership from time to time. On the other hand, China has been seen screwing it every time. Now India’s firm friend France has once again supported India’s membership in the United Nations Security Council.
A joint statement from India and France stated that the two leaders especially emphasized the immediate need to improve the United Nations Security Council and agreed to close coordination on multilateral forums, including UNSC matters. France has reiterated its strong support for India’s permanent membership in UNSC. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Marsile with French President Emmanuel Macron after delivering the inaugural speech of the AI Action Summit in Paris. The Eurusula von Der Leyen, Chairman of the European Union Commission, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres were also present at the High-Profile AI Summit. In his address, PM Modi called for investment in providing skills and skills to the people for the future artificial intelligence (AI). He also emphasized that governance means to ensure access to everyone.
After PM Modi expressed interest, France confirmed that India would host the next AI summit. India also assured France of full support for his initiative on AI. The Prime Minister also spoke at the India-France CEOS Forum in Paris, where he encouraged the partnership between the businesses of the two countries. Highlighting the progress in manufacturing, infrastructure and production in many regions, Modi called upon businesses to join the Indian market as the country is working towards the goal of ‘Vikited India’ by 2047.
How is UNSC membership fixed?
For many years India has often been arguing for a permanent place in the United Nations Security Council, arguing that the current body is limited in terms of representation. To become a ‘permanent’ member of UNSC, a country will need the support of two-thirds of the UN General Assembly and all P5 countries. While achieving the first requirement is relatively easy, the second is difficult. This is because all five permanent members have veto power. Thus, if a country decides against a proposal, it will not be passed even when the other four countries reach the consensus. However, before all this, the original United Nations Charter signed in 1945 also requires amendments to expand the permanent seats of UNSC.
