Germany India Relations | ‘Germany increases the number of visas for skilled Indians to 90,000’, Narendra Modi announced

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the strategic partnership between India and Germany has emerged as a strong support at a time when the world is facing tension, conflict and uncertainty.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the strengthening ties between India and Germany and termed the recent cooperation as proof of their deepening friendship.

Speaking at the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business 2024, PM Modi said, “On one hand the CEO Forum meeting is taking place here, while on the other our navies are exercising together. German Naval Ships on port call in Goa And the seventh inter-governmental consultation is also to be held between India and Germany, he said, adding that the friendship between India and Germany is deepening at every step. Modi said that this year India-Germany strategic partnership is completing 25 years and said that the next 25 years will take this partnership to new heights.

Prime Minister Modi said, “This year is the 25th year of India-Germany strategic partnership. The next 25 years will take this partnership to new heights. We have prepared a roadmap for a developed India in the coming 25 years.” Prime Minister Modi welcomed the release of the “Focus on India” document by the German Cabinet, which outlines how two strong democracies and leading economies can cooperate for global good.

He said, “I am pleased that at such a critical time, the German Cabinet has released the India Focus Document. The India Focus Document is a blueprint for how the world’s two strongest democracies, the world’s two leading economies, can work together to promote global well-being.” This clearly shows the vision and commitment to take the strategic partnership forward. The confidence that Germany has shown in India’s skilled manpower is particularly surprising.”

Participating in the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Modi said India-Germany relations are not a relationship of exchange but a transformative partnership of two capable and strong democracies. Modi said, “The world is going through a period of tension, conflict and uncertainty. There are serious concerns about the rule of law and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region. In these times, the strategic partnership between India and Germany has emerged as a strong support.

The Prime Minister said that this is Scholz’s third visit to India which marks the ‘triple celebration’ of friendship between India and Germany. He said, “At the last IGC in Berlin in 2022, we took important decisions for our bilateral cooperation. In two years, there has been encouraging progress in various areas of our strategic relations. There is growing cooperation in areas like defence, technology, energy, green and sustainable development which have become symbols of mutual trust.” The Prime Minister also welcomed the ‘Focus on India’ strategy announced by Germany.

“I am pleased that we are taking several new and important initiatives to expand and enhance our partnership and move from a ‘whole of government’ to a whole-of-nation approach,” Modi said. The IGC is a biennial exercise. and was last organized in Berlin in May 2022. German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) was agreed upon in the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and the German Chancellor. IGC was started in 2011. It comprehensively reviews cooperation and identifies new areas of engagement between the two countries in various fields.
