The Indian women’s team is out of the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. After which Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy is under threat. At the same time, the Indian Board of Control is all set to take a decision on whether the Indian women’s team needs a new captain after their early exit from the Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE. For the first time in recent years, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team could not even reach the knockout stage and their wait for the ICC trophy continued.
According to information received by Indian Express, BCCI will hold a meeting with the selection committee and head coach Amol Majumdar to discuss Harmanpreet’s future as captain. It is also being said that the meeting will be held before the selection of the team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting from October 24. Incidentally, Harmanpreet had taken over as India’s T20 captain in 2016 when the team failed to make the semi-finals of the tournament held on home soil.
India, under the leadership of Harmanpreet, has been successful in making it to the knockouts ahead of the 2024 tournament and reached the final in the 2020 season, but could not win. Despite having a strong team in 2024, India lost to New Zealand in the very first match, significantly reducing their chances of reaching the semi-finals. Last Sunday, Australia defeated them and knocked them out. Although Harmanpreet’s place is safe in the Indian team, there is a possibility that the contracts of some support staff will not be renewed.
