Two days after the arrest of five senior students on the charge of attacking a first -year student at Government Nursing College in Kottayam, Kerala, police said on Thursday that they are investigating whether more victims Are. The SP said, “So far only one student has complained. We are seeing whether more students were tortured. We and students will record statements. Apart from this, we will also investigate whether the matter is in collusion with the officers including the hostel warden. ”

According to the official, the police received a complaint about the case on Tuesday (February 11) and five accused students were arrested on the same day. The SP said, “The complainant student informed the college officials the same day. He in return submitted a complaint to the police. A case has been registered on the arrested people for hurting, criminal intimidation and extortion. In addition, he has also been booked under Section Four and Five of the Kerala Ragging Prohibition Act.

The incidents of “ragging” lasted from 16 November to 10 February last year. It is alleged that ragging started by seniors threatening to send money online to juniors. Later, the seniors allegedly put a knife on the complainant’s neck as he did not “respect” the seniors.

In the video revealed on Thursday, the complainant is shown lying on a cot, whose hands and legs are tied. Seniors are seen hitting him with a sharp thing, which is being described as a compass with geometry sets. The victim can be heard screaming, while his attackers can be heard laughing. They were also seen putting lotions in her mouth.

The complainant’s father said that the family was not aware of what kind of torture his son was being tortured on the campus. He said, “On February 11, the day he complained to the college principal, I was also told about ragging. Many students have faced similar experiences, but they are all afraid to speak openly.”

Five students arrested in the case have been suspended by the college. He was a member of the Kerala Government Student Nurse Association (KGSNA) – a student group that is not affiliated to any political party – and one of them was its state general secretary. Like many other nursing and medical colleges in the state, the Government Nursing College in Kottayam also has no unit of party -related student groups like SFI and KSU.
