Shivkumar’s visit to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where he took a holy bath with his family at Triveni Sangam, gave rumors of possible changes.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar denied any scheme to join BJP. He said that I have seen some media and social media, and my friends are calling and asking me if I am coming close to the BJP. He dismissed all the speculation and said clearly that I am a born Congressman. Shivkumar’s visit to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where he took a holy bath with his family at Triveni Sangam, gave rumors of possible changes.
Some people within the Congress saw it as a strategic move, while BJP supporters estimated about political restructuring. Addressing these claims, he clarified, “It is my faith to come to Mahakumbh and I respect all religions. Such speculation does not even get closer to me; I do not take BJP’s allegations seriously. The time of these rumors matches the power struggle going on within the Karnataka Congress. Shivkumar’s supporters have been vocal about his aspirations for the post of Chief Minister, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has maintained his hold on the leadership.
Siddaramaiah recently got more force to speculation after hosting a dinner for selected Dalit and Scheduled Tribes (ST) cabinet colleagues, which led to a discussion about a rotation Chief Minister formula. Shivkumar, while trying to reduce the news of tussle over the leadership, said, “People have blessed us and have given us a chance, and we will remain for five years.” The Chief Minister and I will continue to work as per the instructions of the party. “He said on behalf of his supporters to make him the Chief Minister, saying,” I do not want anyone’s support. This is between me and the Congress party.
