The US has advised its citizens, especially women, to take ‘more caution’ in tourist places and public places, citing increasing incidents of rape, violence and terrorism in India. The US State Department has also released ‘Level 2’ travel advisory for this. After this move by America, the Modi government has come under target of the opposition. The Congress taunted and said, ‘Modi is possible’, which has increased the pressure on the government.
Congress attacks government on US advisory
The Congress surrounded the Modi government on the travel advisory of America. While sharing the news, the Congress wrote, “If Modi is there, it is possible.” Apart from this, Karnataka Congress described this advisory as ‘jerk’ and ’embarrassment’ for the government.
Karnataka Congress wrote on X, ‘American travel advice shook India! In the June 2025 update, women have been warned not to travel alone in India, as the threat of rape, violence and terrorism is increasing here. Is this a decline of the Prime Minister’s ‘safe India’ slogan? Global embarrassment for @narendramodi and @BJP4India. ‘

America’s India Travel Advisory, Major Warning and Advice
The US State Department has issued a travel advisory of ‘Level 2’ to India on 16 June, advising its citizens, especially women, increasing crimes (such as rape) in India and ‘more precautions’ due to the threat of terrorism. Advisory states that violent crimes also occur at tourist destinations and terrorist attacks are unexpected, so it is advisable to avoid tourist places, markets and government facilities. In particular, there have been warnings not to travel in Jammu and Kashmir (except East Ladakh and Leh), 10 km of India-Pakistan border, and Naxal-affected states (eg Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand).
Additionally, American citizens have been advised to not carry satellite phones or GPS devices (which are illegal in India) and not traveling alone, especially women. It has also been reported that the emergency assistance capacity of the US government in rural areas is limited, and citizens have been asked to review their travel plans and be cautious.
