If you are unaware of the ways to drive on the road then how will accidents be prevented?

In fact, when we are unaware of the rules and regulations of driving on the road or have incomplete information, then the talk of reducing road accidents in itself becomes meaningless. On the one hand, the traffic pressure on the road is increasing and on the other hand, flouting of rules is common. This is the reason why the number of people losing their lives in road accidents is increasing year after year. According to a survey, most of the people of Delhi are not aware of road safety standards. Even most of the people crossing the road from one side to the other are not aware of where the overbridge or underpass is built. There is no point in using zebra cross because two wheeler and four wheeler vehicles do not take any precaution in stopping their vehicle at red light. This is the reason why pedestrians and drivers are easily becoming victims of road accidents.
It is a little difficult to understand but it cannot be rejected outright that 90 percent of the people living in the country’s capital Delhi are not fully aware of the road safety standards. Year after year, the number of road accidents and casualties and deaths due to road accidents is not showing any signs of decreasing. This is what the report of the survey conducted by Community Against Drunken Driving (CAD) in Delhi from August 2023 to December 31, 2023 is saying. Even if we accept the survey report as exaggerated for some time, we cannot turn away from the statistics of road accidents. One more thing becomes clear that when the condition of the country’s capital Delhi is like this, then it would be completely meaningless to expect the villagers to have complete knowledge of road safety rules. According to CAD founder Prince Singhal, the biggest reason for road accidents is people not being aware of road safety standards.

Even though the government makes lakhs of claims that the driving licenses for driving vehicles are issued only after examination and testing, but the reality is different. This has come to light in CAD’s Delhi survey itself. Truly conveys most of the information to people. This is the reason why the seriousness that should be taken towards following the rules is not visible. In Delhi itself, 93 percent people do not know where the black spots are? 67 percent of the people walking on the road feel unsafe. It is even said that most people get driving licenses sitting at home through brokers. In such a situation, talking about reduction in road accidents is like day dreaming.
In today’s circumstances, returning home safely after leaving home is considered no less than an achievement. On the one hand, the condition of the roads, on the other hand, the increasing pressure of traffic, thirdly, there are incidents of road rage due to excessive aggression among the youth and due to lack of complete knowledge of traffic rules, there is no mention of reduction in road accidents. Interestingly, even at red light, vehicles will be found parked at the zebra cross, while on the other hand, most of the common citizens also do not use the zebra cross and foot over bridge while crossing the road. This in itself is a situation of great carelessness and invites accidents. The way lights have started being installed in vehicles and the way it was strictly followed that half of the lights should be kept black and by running campaigns from time to time, policemen or NGO people would stand at the intersections with black color and turn on the lights of the vehicles themselves. The upper half of the vehicle was painted black so that light does not fall directly on the person in front and he can easily see the speed of the vehicle coming in front. Vehicles have indicators to give signals before turning sideways, but carelessness is seen in their use. A major reason why the common man is not serious about following road safety standards is the lack of knowledge and awareness of the rules.
In fact, if we want to stop road accidents, we will have to make people aware. Once upon a time, when we used to go to watch a movie in the cinema hall, a government documentary related to awareness was also shown. Normally, the film would be played after such an awareness documentary right after the interval. Such awareness documentaries can be directed to be shown like advertisements in between the programs on the channels. For this, awareness clippings can be prepared and made available by the government. People can be made aware through clipping of a few seconds during popular serials or news. If road accidents are to be stopped and brought down to minimum level, then both the government and the common man will have to be serious in ensuring awareness and adherence to safety standards.
