In Gujarat, at least six students died after a boat capsized in Harni Lake in Vadodara today. According to official sources, there were 27 people on board including 23 students and four teachers of a private school when the incident took place. Our correspondent reports that NDRF and fire brigade teams are carrying out the rescue operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel have expressed their deepest condolences over the loss of lives due to the tragic incident. In a social media post, Mr Modi said, the local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. PM has announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased and 50,000 rupees to the injured. CM Bhupendra Patel has also announced an ex-gratia of 4 lakh rupees to the next kin of each deceased and 50,000 rupees to the injured.

Meanwhile, State Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel told the media that 10 people have been rescued so far and were taken to hospital. The Minister said strong action will be taken against those responsible for the mishap.
