Amid language dispute, Union Home Minister Amit Shah opened another front and said that English speakers in the country will soon be ashamed. Speaking at a book release program, the Home Minister emphasized that indigenous languages are central for India’s identity and they should get preference on foreign languages. Shah said that English speakers in this country will soon be ashamed – construction of such a society is no longer far away. I believe that the languages of our country are gems of our culture. Without our languages, we cannot be true Indians.

He called for a fresh effort across the country to recover India’s linguistic heritage. Shah also predicted that English worldwide would be seen as a symbol of colonial slavery. He said, no foreign language can be enough to understand our country, our culture, our history and our religion. The whole of India cannot be imagined through incomplete foreign languages.
