The Ministry of External Affairs has launched an e-Passport initiative as part of the Passport Seva Program (PSP) version 2.0. This is not only a major step towards modernization of India’s passport system, but will also help avoid the repetition of data of passport holders. The e-passport identity will make verification more efficient, as well as provide better security against fraud.

What is e-Passport?
The e-passport is a combination of traditional paper documents that contain a safe, electronic chip with individual and biometric data. The e-passport uses a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that stores all personal information and biometric details.

How to identify e-passport?
It is very easy to identify the e-passport as it comes with a small additional golden symbol under the front cover of the passport.
