India-Pakistan Tensions: Center extended the duration of closing 24 airports till May 14

The central government has extended the period of closing 24 airports across the country by May 14, as tension between New Delhi and Islamabad has increased after the drone attack by Operation Sindoor and the Pakistani Army. On Thursday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that by May 10, 24 airports would remain closed for civil flight operations. Many airlines have also issued travel advice for passengers and have asked them to be updated about the closure of airports and increase in security protocols.

Airports in cities like Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Kishangarh, Patiala, Shimla, Jaisalmer, Pathankot, Jammu, Bikaner, Leh, Porbandar etc. will remain closed till May 14. At the same time, the air travel at Delhi Airport was disrupted for the second consecutive day, as the ban on the airspace between India and Pakistan continued due to the increasing tension, causing many flights to the cancellation and delay. After the Pakistani drones and missile attacks on Indian cities of Jammu, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan, tension between the two neighboring countries increased further.

228 flights have been canceled at Delhi International Airport in the last 2 days. According to airport officials, a total of 138 flights were canceled on Friday. These include 63 domestic arrival, 66 domestic departure, 4 international arrival and 5 international departure. More than 90 flights were canceled and more than 200 delay during the busiest journey hours between 8 am and 2 pm on 8 May.
