This significant step will promote the effective command, control and efficient functioning of inter-service organizations (ISO), which will strengthen the jointness between the armed forces. The bill was passed by both houses of Parliament during the monsoon session of 2023 and the President’s approval was received on August 15, 2023, and according to the Gazette notification of May 08, 2024, the Act came into effect from May 10, 2024.

The Act gives the ISO Commander-in-Chief and Officer-in-Command the right to command and control service personnel under them, which ensures effective maintenance of discipline and administration within organizations. It is achieved without changing the unique service conditions applied to each branch of the armed forces.
