Indian-Americans in Silicon Valley gathered for a solidarity rally at Milpitas City Hall to condemn violence against Hindus in Canada and Bangladesh. Community leaders urged US leaders to condemn the attacks, protect human rights, and hold relevant governments accountable for ensuring the safety of Hindu minorities. Participants in California’s Bay Area, home to more than 200,000 Indian-Americans, expressed outrage over recent incidents, including an attack on Hindu devotees at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, Canada. The protesters raised slogans like stop Khalistani terrorism, protect Canadian-Hindus and stop Islamic terrorism, protect Bangladeshi-Hindus.

We saw videos of Khalistani terrorists attacking the temple complex and beating men, women and children. A media release issued from the rally said that it was horrifying to see Hindus being harassed by those goons who had gone to celebrate the festival of Diwali. The release also criticized Canadian officials. To make matters worse, we saw that the police were already infiltrated with Khalistan supporters and were beating up Hindu devotees. In Canada, freedom of violence is being disguised as freedom of expression. We have lost all confidence in the Trudeau government to protect the basic human rights of Canadian-Hindus.

We are one world, one family, one future. Ramesh Japra of the organization American for Hindus said. He highlighted attacks by Khalistanis in Canada and fundamentalist groups in Bangladesh as worrying trends. Pushpita Prasad of the Coalition of Hindus in North America (COHNA) expressed concern over her team being targeted by Sikh for Justice, an organization banned in India, which is active in Canada and the US.
