Dhaka Describing the demolition of the residence of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as an internal matter of the country, the interim government said India’s comment on the incident was ‘unexpected and unfair’. Violence has arisen in Bangladesh since Wednesday night, in which thousands of protesters set fire to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence in 32 Dhanmandi in Dhaka. Rahman led the country’s liberation struggle from this residence, which was later converted into a memorial. From this historic residence, Rahman announced independence from Pakistan to Bangladesh in 1971.
India expressed grief on Thursday when the historic housing was demolished and said that this ‘this incident of barbarity’ should be strongly condemned. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had said, “It is regrettable that the historic residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was destroyed on February 5.” This housing was a symbol of heroic resistance of the people of Bangladesh against the forces of occupation and harassment.
Those who give importance to the freedom struggle that gives support to Bangla identity and pride, all are familiar with the importance of this residence for the national consciousness of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that the incident of Dhanmandi 32 is related to the internal affairs of the country.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, “The statement of India’s Foreign Ministry released on February 6, 2025 has come to the attention of the interim government. Such a comment from India’s Foreign Ministry on Bangladesh’s internal affairs is unfair. “He said,” Bangladesh does not officially comment on the internal affairs of any state and he expects a similar conduct from other countries as well Is.
