Indore and Surat today received the cleanest cities award of the country in the Cleanliness Survey-2023, in the category of more than one lakh population.
Indore has received this award for the 7th consecutive time. Navi Mumbai got the third position in the same category. President Droupadi Murmu presented the ‘Swachh Survekshan -2023 awards’ at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and other officials.
Sasvad in Maharashtra, Patan in Chhattisgarh, and Lonavala in Maharashtra bagged the top three positions in the cleanest cities in the category of population of below one lakh population. Meanwhile, Maharashtra got the first prize for cleanliness in the state category, Madhya Pradesh got second and Chhattisgarh got the award of third cleanest state. Varanasi and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh clinched the top spots as the Cleanest Ganga Towns.
Addressing the gathering, President Draupadi Murmu said that the central government and other organizations had played a significant role in making the Swachh Bharat Mission a mass movement in the country. She said that the Swachh Bharat Mission also provides livelihood to millions of people who are associated with the mission. President Murmu also thanked the ‘Safaimitra’ for contributing to the Swachh Bharat Mission and said their contribution towards the mission is remarkable. She also urged the youth of the country to work towards making India the cleanest country in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, that one lakh sites in 4,447 cities were accessed for this Swachh Survekshan and responses of twelve crore citizens were taken. He said, in 2014 only 15 to 16 percent of waste was scientifically processed and currently 76 percent of waste is being processed.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav expressed happiness that Indore has bagged the cleanest cities award for the 7th consecutive time.
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai told Akashvani News that since the inception of the Swachh Survekshan Award in 2017, the state has received 67 awards. He added that today is a great moment for Chhattisgarh, to secure third position in the state category.
