Ahead of the counting of votes for the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, BJP leader Babulal Marandi confidently claimed that the BJP-led NDA will win more than 51 seats and form the government in the state, citing corruption in the current administration as the main reason. Speaking before the counting of votes began on Saturday, Marandi said, look, we had some regrets about the government, but based on the feedback received from grassroots workers after the elections, I can say with confidence that this time Jharkhand BJP and NDA alliance will get more than 51 seats and NDA will form the government here.

When Marandi was asked about factors that could work in his favour, he pointed to corruption and governance issues under the Hemant Soren-led government. He said the first major factor was corruption, which plagued people from top to bottom. Law and order had deteriorated, development work was not taking place and on top of that there was the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators. The Hemant government was settling them here, making their ration cards, Aadhaar cards, adding them to the voter list and even getting land registered in their names. Naturally, people were angry about all this and this is one of the main reasons.

Marandi also underlined that the BJP-NDA alliance has received support across all divisions and constituencies. On the discussion about the next Chief Minister, he said that let’s wait till this evening when all the results will be known. There will be a meeting of the legislative party and the leader will be elected. After that we will call everyone and tell you (media). BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev showed similar optimism while addressing the media. He said that this morning has brought a new ray of hope for Jharkhand. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the people. The end of the dark night of 5 years of corruption, atrocities on women, plunder and corruption is near. When the sun sets, it will be a political sunset for the Soren Dynasty. NDA will form the government by winning the maximum number of seats in the history of Jharkhand.
