Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a sarcasm on Kamal Haasan on Wednesday, taking a sarcasm over his statement of “Kannada born from Tamil”, saying that the actor is not aware of the long history of the language. This comment has caused resentment in many organizations supporters. These groups protested against Hassan in various parts of the state like Belagavi, Mysore, Hubli, Bengaluru etc. Karnataka Rakshan Vedike (KRV), one of the most vocal Kannada organizations in Karnataka, has now threatened to boycott Haasan’s films throughout Karnataka, until he apologizes unconditionally.
Makkal Nidhi Mayyam (MNM), a colleague of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, announced on Wednesday that its president Kamal Haasan would be its candidate for the Rajya Sabha election to be held on June 19. The Administrative Committee of MNM passed a resolution at a meeting here, nominating party chief Hassan as its candidate for the Upper House and formally requested support from allies. Soon after the DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the allotment of a seat of Rajya Sabha to MNM, the party nominated Hassan as its candidate. Prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, an agreement was signed by DMK and Hassan’s party MNM.
