Kamal Nath, who played an important role in the politics of Madhya Pradesh and the country, is celebrating his 78th birthday today i.e. on 17th November. Kamal Nath reached the heights of politics on the basis of political understanding and hard work. After ending the exile of Congress, Kamal Nath established power in Madhya Pradesh and made Chhindwara the stronghold of Congress for a long time. At that time, hardly anyone would have thought that this person from Kanpur would one day come to power in MP.
Birth and family
Kamal Nath was born on 18 November 1946 in Khalasi Line, Kanpur. His early education was completed from Kanpur. Actually, his father Mahendra Nath and Leela Nath wanted him to become a lawyer. But something else was going on in Kamal Nath’s mind. Kamal Nath spent his childhood in Kanpur and youth in Kolkata, West Bengal.
political journey
In the year 1976, he entered politics and got the charge of Uttar Pradesh Youth Congress. Then in the year 1979, Kamal Nath was elected MP from Chhindwara for the first time. Then he was elected to the Lok Sabha in the years 1984, 1990, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. After this, after becoming the Chief Minister in the year 2018, Kamal Nath made his son Nakul Nath contest from Chhindwara Lok Sabha in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. During this period, Nakulnath won the elections and was sent to the Parliament. However, Nakul Nath was defeated in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Kamal Nath becomes the third son of Congress
Let us tell you that Kamal Nath, who became MP at the age of 34, has been MP 9 times till now. He faced many political challenges at different stages. You can also estimate Kamal Nath’s stature in Congress from the fact that he was considered the third son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In the 80s, the slogan was ‘Indira Gandhi’s two hands are Sanjay Gandhi and Kamal Nath.’
Kamal Nath became the Chief Minister
Kamal Nath’s loyalty towards the Gandhi family took him to the heights of politics. But due to his greed for power, Kamal Nath drowned Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath, the third son of the same Indira Gandhi who made Kamal Nath the leader of the state, brought the Congress into trouble in the state. After a long penance of 13 years, Congress had achieved power in Madhya Pradesh with collective efforts. During this time, along with Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia played an important role in this. After victory in the elections, there was a tussle between Kamal Nath over the post of CM and due to his strong relations with Congress, Kamal Nath sat on the Chief Minister’s chair.
Lost his chair due to greed for power
Even after becoming the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, his fascination for power did not go away. He also remained the state president of Congress and became the power center in the state. But this did not please Jyotiraditya Scindia and he left Congress along with his supporters. Due to which the Congress government fell in the state and with the help of Scindia, Shivraj became the CM of MP. As soon as it came to power in the state, the Congress under the leadership of Kamal Nath started moving towards decline.
Congress’s bad defeat in assembly and Lok Sabha elections
During the 2023 assembly elections, Congress had entered Madhya Pradesh relying on Kamal Nath. But Congress could not capitalize on the political issues against Bharatiya Janata Party. At the same time, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress was expecting at least one seat from Chhindwara, if not more. But the real hope of Congress was lost and Chhindwara seat which was Kamal Nath’s stronghold also went out of its hands and in this way Congress got zero share silence in Madhya Pradesh.
