Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that his government was seriously considering enacting a law against hafty rhetoric. He also said that discussion is going on about making laws against online betting.
The Chief Minister said this at the end of a two -day review meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DC) of all the districts (DC) and CEOs of all Zilla Panchayats. Siddaramaiah said, I have said that if someone gives a hate speech, action should be taken against him. We will bring laws against it.
The government is seriously considering this. Talking to reporters here, he said, strict action should be taken against those who give hate speech, no matter how effective they are. Criminal cases should be registered against them.
Siddaramaiah’s statement has come in the wake of the recent communal killings in the coastal district of Dakshin Kannada. Regarding online betting, Siddaramaiah said that Law Minister H.K. Patil and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge are discussing the action taken in this regard and if the law is required.
He said, after discussion, necessary action will be taken based on the suggestions they give. He said that the youth class is falling prey to cricket betting and activities like gambling in districts should be strictly controlled.
