Karnataka High Court took automatic cognizance in Bengaluru Stampede Case, Police Complain against CM-Deputy CM, AG promised to take action

The Karnataka High Court took self -cognizance of the tragic stampede on Wednesday evening outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in which 11 people died and at least 56 people were injured. The court will hear the case at 2.30 pm. The incident occurred during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s first IPL title win, where thousands of people gathered in anticipation of the team’s public attendance.

High court intervened, AG promises action
A lawyer seeking judicial intervention, Acting Chief Justice V. Kameshwar Rao and Justice C.M. Immediately mentioned the matter before Joshi’s bench. Advocate General Representing the state Shashi Kiran Shetty assured the court that all necessary steps were being taken and a detailed factual report would be presented. Shetty told the bench, “This is not a protest matter. We are worried like any citizen of the state. We will present what has been done and we are open for any suggestion.

Police complaint filed against CM and top officials
After the incident, several complaints have been filed by activists and political representatives. Social activist Snehamayi Krishna lodged a complaint at Kabban Park Police Station under Section 106 of IPC, in which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials were named. In addition, the Aam Aadmi Party-Karnataka state youth president Lohit Hanumanpura lodged a complaint demanding an FIR against the KSCA and the CEO of the stadium.
