Kawad Yatra 2025 | Meeting with DJ operators in Meerut, warning of strict action on playing inflammatory songs

Many people wearing orange clothes carry utensils on their shoulders to collect the holy water of the Ganges and offer it to Shiva. Kavad Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage performed by the devotees of Lord Shiva, also known as Shiva devotees or Kanwaria. The annual procession occurs in the holy month of Sawan which falls in the months of July-August. During this pilgrimage, millions of devotees, known as Kanwaria, collect holy water from the Ganges river and take it back to their hometown to offer it to Shiva temples. Kavadis carry the Ganges water to offer to Lord Shiva as a symbol of their faith and penance. But many times when Kavadis leave with their postal Kanwar, theyKanvadThey cause trouble for others. In loud voice, DJs, traffic jams, molestation- violence etc. sometimes cause problems.

The Meerut Police and Administration held an important meeting with the DJ operators in the auditorium on the police line on Tuesday and instructed not to play objectionable and inflammatory songs during the yatra with the aim of peaceful and safe operations of the Kanwar Yatra to be held in the upcoming Shravan month. Official sources of the district administration said on Wednesday that about 200 DJ operators participated in this meeting held under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (City) Brijesh Kumar Singh and Additional Superintendent of Police (Nagar) Ayush Vikram Singh.

The officials gave directions to the DJ operators and said that they should not use DJ vehicles more than 12 feet high and more than 14 feet wide. Clear instructions were given in the meeting that there will be a complete ban on playing objectionable, inflammatory or pornographic songs during the yatra. Strict action will be taken against those who do so. To control noise pollution, it will be mandatory to follow the prescribed sound limit and DJ operations will not be allowed after 11 pm.

Sources said that in the meeting itself, formal notices were served to all DJ operators on behalf of the administration under Section 168 (preventive action) of the Indian Code. The meeting also appealed to maintain a cordial atmosphere and ensure compliance with the instructions of the administration. Officials said that the Kandar Yatra is a symbol of faith, discipline and social harmony, which will be concluded with peace and orderly with the cooperation of all parties. The Shravan month will start on 11 July and run till August 9.
