Kishan Reddy visits flood-affected areas in Telangana, assures central help

Hyderabad. BJP’s Telangana unit president and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy visited flood-affected areas of the state’s Khammam district and assured the people that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre will provide all possible help to the affected people. He said the Centre has asked the Telangana government to first use Rs 1,345 crore available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to help the flood-affected people. Reddy said this amount is available with the state as an advance from the Government of India.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy soon after the devastation caused by heavy rains and floods. Prime Minister Modi asked him (Revanth Reddy) to use Rs 1,345 crore available as advance in SDRF. There should be no politics on flood relief,” he said after visiting flood-hit Muneru in Khammam district on Sunday.
29 people have lost their lives in the recent heavy rains and floods in Telangana. The state government has urged the Centre to declare the recent heavy rains and floods in the state as a national disaster and release immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore. According to preliminary estimates, the rains and floods have caused losses of Rs 5,438 crore.
After visiting the flood-affected areas of Dhamsalapuram and Thirumalapalem in Khammam, Reddy said he interacted with the people affected by the devastating floods and enquired about the flood relief and rehabilitation efforts. “I also came to know that the victims are not getting adequate help from the state government,” he said in a post on ‘X’. Khammam witnessed unprecedented floods, leaving a large number of people homeless. The Union minister assured that the state and central governments will stand with the victims and provide them all possible help. Reddy also promised to build a resistant embankment along the Muneru river in the vicinity to prevent future floods.
