Indian forward Lalit Kumar Upadhyay has said goodbye to international hockey. However, he will continue to play domestic and league matches. His career, which lasted for more than a decade, came to an end after Lalit Kumar’s retirement. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay made many achievements in his career. It also includes winning bronze medals in two Olympic Paris and Tokyo.

Lalit Kumar Upadhyay played 4 out of 8 matches played by India in Europe. These matches were part of the 2024-25 Pro League season. He played his last match against Australia on 15 June. Lalit has played 183 matches for India in Senior International Hockey, scoring 67 goals. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay is also the deputy SP in Uttar Pradesh Police.

Lalit wrote on his social media account that, the journey started from a small village where there were limited resources, but dreams were infinite. From facing a sting operation to standing on the Olympic podium, not once but twice, it has been a way full of challenges, development and unforgettable pride. After 26 years, becoming an Olympian from my city is something that I will always cherish in my heart with respect and gratitude.

Also, this 31 -year -old player thanked many people who played a role in his career. He wrote that, my first coach Mr. Parmanand Mishra, who introduced me to hockey and laid my foundation. Harendra sir, who selected me in Air India and gave me the first break. Sameer Bhai and Dhanraj sir who guided me with care and faith during that time.

Lalit further wrote that, to BPCL, who offered me a job and gave me 8 meaningful years of work and development. My friends and colleagues who made this journey unforgettable. Hockey India who gave me a chance to wear a national jersey. At the same time, by appointing the state government as DSP, a responsibility for honoring my journey with pride in proudly.
